Japan visa fee calculator (Oct 2026 reform)
Japan is replacing its flat ¥6,000 renewal fee with a tiered system from 1 October 2026. Fees increase significantly, especially for permanent residency (¥10,000 → ¥200,000). This calculator shows what you currently pay, what you will pay after the reform, and how much you save by applying before the deadline.
Key deadline
Applications submitted and fees paid before 1 October 2026 are processed at the current rate, regardless of when the decision is issued. Date of submission, not date of decision, determines which fee applies.
About the October 2026 reform
The flat ¥6,000 fee (introduced in April 2025) is being replaced by a system that differentiates by the length of the requested period. Longer periods require more administrative review and cost more. The legal ceiling is ¥100,000 for renewals and status changes, and ¥300,000 for permanent residency, leaving room for future increases.
